Trouble in Mind - Yale School of Drama
The year is 1957, and it’s the first day of rehearsal for “a hard-hitting play with something to say about race,” in the words of the show’s well-meaning white director. But the black leading lady doesn’t buy the script’s trite message. She’s been in show business long enough to know when to smile and shut up, but as the gap between her lived experience and the play’s platitudes grows, she and the rest of the company are forced to confront the painful truth about how race is portrayed in the American theatre.
